On Saturday, April 26 on youth hunt about 6:30 we went to the hill farm where we saw some turkeys previously. It was sunny and about 60-65 degrees out. I was dressed in camo and I had a camo 12 gauge shotgun with 3 inch shells. We got into the woods and found a spot to sit. We then set up our decoys. I sat with my back up against a tree and James, the guy who took me out, was sitting about 3 feet away from me. He started to call then suddenly a Jake came in but I couldn’t get a shot at him.

We sat there for an hour or so and then we move to a different spot. When we found a new spot, we didn’t set anything up. James started to call and we had a hen come in, but I could not shoot it because it didn’t have a beard. We talked to the hen for awhile until we saw the top of a tom’s head but he wouldn’t come up over the hill so I could get a shot at him. We sat there for a half hour or so and then got up to walk around and see if we could either see him or hear the turkey.

We packed up and got in the truck to move to a different spot. We headed for some farm land where James got permission to go hunting at. While we were driving, we saw a tom out in a field. So we turned the truck around and parked it. We got out and shut the doors quietly so the tom wouldn’t hear us. I then put my face mask and gloves on. We walk over to the field though the woods quietly. The tom gobbled three times before we sat down. We finally sat down, made a hen call, and the tom came in strutting. I looked back at James and he said to take the shot. So I put the gun to my shoulder, took it off safe. I then lined the bead up with the tom’s head and squeezed the trigger. James and I saw the turkey fall on his back so I put the gun on safe, got up, and walked over. There he was, flopping around. We went to James’ house and took a few pictures then we went to the farm I work at and took some more pictures.
