In December, the Cuba-Rushford Central School
District Fish Commission members traveled to the State University of New York at
Cobleskill.
The students
participated in an egg-take project that resulted in more than 70,000 eggs removed from
300 brook trout. Dr. John Foster, head of Cobleskill's fisheries program, complimented
students on their effort and enthusiasm. He said they did better than most of the
participating college students.

In addition to the egg-take, students camped out at the school's ski lodge
and toured the college and its fisheries and wildlife facilities.
The next day, CRCS students
sorted out the unfertilized eggs and packaged 500 brook trout into coolers for the trip
home. By Sunday evening, the trout were in their new home -- the pond facility at CRCS
Middle-High School.
The fish are from a Canadian
strain of brook trout and are very hardy, weighing 40 percent more than typical wild
stocks in New York State. |
